The Overturning of Roe v. Wade: What it Could Mean and How You Can Join The Fight to Stop It5/8/2022 According to a leaked draft opinion, the United States Supreme Court will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, much to our dismay. If overturned, this could mean that states will have the jurisdiction to heavily regulate or ban abortion—a decision that will fly in the face of women's right to privacy, as enshrined in the Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution. Catastrophic consequences await. The Guttmacher Institute, a leading research organization on reproductive health, predicts that 26 states are "certain or likely to ban abortion." There are myriad reasons why we must take immediate action. The Supreme Court's decision is an attack on gender parity, bodily autonomy, socioeconomic justice, health and safety, the separation of church and state, and the list goes on. Overturning Roe v. Wade will set a harmful precedent for the United States and the rest of the world. It will send the message that equality need not be respected, that a woman's body belongs to the state, unlike a man's. In times like these, we feel powerless as individuals. The fight, however, begins with you. There are protests to be joined, awareness to be raised, and votes to be cast when the time comes. We must do what we can to stand with Roe. JOIN THE FIGHT!
